1, 2, 3, 4 tell me that you love me more

Is it bad that I can not keep my focus on any one thing for the life of me? Now I can more or less stay focused on one over arching theme (i.e. weddings) but I can't really stay focused on any one topic. Therefore, dear reader, I apologize for being all over the place. Luckily though, thanks to technology, I can label each post according to topic and despite my chaotic randomness still stay organized (neato!). Anyways...what was I going to post? oh right....wax seals. Oh my goodness I feel a new obsession coming on.... I love, love, love it! Stamps be damned but this, THIS is amazing. It's unbelievably bad ass. It is the holy grail of invitations and I must have it....

Hair styles continued...

Aside from my deep love/obsession for all things Jessica Alba related, I also really enjoy Keira Knightly's style...this could be due to the fact that we have very similar looks (read: tall, skinny, brown hair/ eyes, could be mistaken for a boy if we had a hat on)...but I digress

Even though I loathed this movie with every fiber in my being, I absolutely *love* (along with everyone else I'm sure) this look. The hair style perfectly evokes the feeling I'm trying to achieve...and that dress....oh how I yearn for it so....

All about the hair

So far there have been few vendors that I have seriously been stressing over. Invitations? No. Florals? Not so much. Music? As if. Hair? Oh my goodness I feel sick. I have no idea who I am going to get to do my hair (or makeup for that matter!). Decorations be damned, I want to look beyond amazing and part of looking amazing involves having fabulous hair. Now part of my nervousness could be attributed to my long standing dispute with hair salons. I seem to want one thing, they assume I meant the exact opposite (oh when you said "keep the length" I thought you meant "cut off 4 inches"). Needless to say I have not had the greatest of experiences with salons. So as my big day approaches, how I should have my hair--and who should do it--have been causing quite a headache. I am irrationally terrified that I will end up looking like this:

or this:

Therefore I've been scouring the internet for some style options (if I have pictures, and do several trial runs, they can't mess it up too badly the day of can they....can they?!?!) Since my hair is currently short, I've been debating what kind of style I want. For the longest time I wanted to wear my hair down and have long soft waves (hello extensions!) a la something like this:

but now I'm thinking more along the lines of a soft romantic non-structured updo. Perhaps a loose bun at the base of my neck with a pretty gardenia. Here are some styles that I really enjoy:

These are from the gorgeous Ms. Abby over at style me pretty. I love how she had a a more formal updo for the ceremony and then unpinned her hair for the reception

And of course, I can't mention styles I love without devoting a small section to Jessica Alba.....

{I think I'm in love <3 }

Invitations

This past weekend S. Monster (as the fiance will be referred to from now on) was in town (yay!!!) and we had 2 main goals: caterer and invitations. The caterer meetings went well and now we're just waiting for price quotes. The invitations however is a whole other matter. S. Monster and I spent a few hours flipping through several books that had nothing worth writing about. To be fair though, I'll admit I've never really been a big fan of invitations--and the few that I have liked usually clock in around $2,000 for just the invitation alone (read: no reply card, reception card, etc.). So that said, I'm currently in the process of looking for some unique and cheap alternatives. Here are some designs that I like:

Wedding Paper Divas; Kenzie Kate; DIOurself Invitation Designs;
Oblation papers; Dream weddings

The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards a DIY project. 1) they would be more personal 2) I would get exactly what I wanted 3) I would save money (woot woot!) and 4) I have a lot of time on my hands despite a full time job in Corporate America and working out excessively to get in shape. What do you think?

little bit of lovely

So I understand that anything I put the flower girl in will be adorable but I think this goes above and beyond the cute standard:
(everything minus their tops...whats up with the long sleeves?)

A little white tutu with ballet slippers and a sash to match the color of the bridesmaids--oh maw gaw, it is so cute I want to eat it with a spoon.

Here are a few more ideas:

Edit note: I read an article the other day that said that in the "bridal world" tutu flower girl dresses were out and a more fitted silhouette was in. Well bridal fashion sense be damned--long live the tutu dress. Oh how I love it so.

Ring Bearer Pillow

How adorable is this ring bearer pillow? It's a fantastic DIY from Martha Stewart--so not only is it perfect but it's affordable too.

lights, lights and more lights

Given that the place where my reception will be is gorgeous on its own, I don't need a lot of flowers for decorations. Therefore, I've been looking for some unique non-flower centerpiece alternatives. Here are some of I found ...

Gardenias

In general I'm not a fan of using white flowers in weddings. Don't get me wrong, I think it can look beautiful, but it's simply not me. I tend to err on the side of color--the more the better. However, currently I am loving the idea of using gardenias. Growing up we had a gardenia bush in the backyard, and my mom always had the flowers scattered around the house. So not only do I have nostalgia for this flower, it is also the perfect white bloom to match my dress and ring bearer's pillow (more on that to come). Coincidence? I think not.

I am totally digging the idea of using the single bloom as a boutonniere for The Boy, and sparingly using a few blooms mixed in with my bouquet.

Because I need more than fine china in my life..

When it comes to the wedding gift registry I know that there are certain "items" that are customary to register for. But let's be honest--when in the world would I ever use fine china (or any china for that matter)? So with that said, I've been looking for some fun and different items to register for. Here are  some of the random things I've found.

For all the traveling we'll do. These are quite possibly the coolest luggage tags I've ever seen...

While fine china may not strike my fancy.... sweet power tools and vacuum cleaners rock my world

Because every house needs games...
For when Spencer makes me breakfast in bed....
CB2 and Woodard & Charles

And simply because he makes me happy!

from cute cake stands...

UK based RE and pot luck cake stands

to super fun cake toppers

3 cheers for cakes

These next few posts are dedicated to all things cake. While there are a ton of gorgeous cakes out there, I was having a hard time finding any I liked that would work with my wedding. Since I tend to stay on one topic until something else catches my attention, over the past week I have been scouring the web relentlessly for cake options. Without further adieu here are some options that I have found..

cakes from the cake girls and april reed

These next few might be a little too whimiscal looking for what I'm going for, but I love them none the less.

cakes from Lovin Sullivan
I especially love the quote on the side of the bird cake which says:

"Laughing out loud I will create my own destiny. Singing in the wind I will forge the river. And be louder than the storm that howls about me."
-Susan Stauter

And finally...

How cute is the "I Do"?? I adore it!

sleeplessness, tiaras and other perils

Insomnia has reared her ugly head again for the third night in a row. Luckily tonight is a good night. My internet is working and I just discovered (last night I might add) that at this time of night Sex in the City comes on--right after Scrubs. Since I don't own cable this is a very exciting thing for me.

Sex in the City makes New York City seem like a wonderfully fabulous adventure. And I suppose for those in the know it is. Unfortunately, I am not one of those people, and New York has been anything but fabulous. I moved up here about 6 months ago alone and with little more than 2 suitcases and a blowup mattress. I found a great little studio apartment in the West Village and over the next few months scoured flea markets and street corners for furniture and decorations.

After I ran out of furniture to  buy and walls to paint the lovely New York fall turned into a bitter cold winter. I had recently become engaged and with my closest friends  and family far away and my fiance in another country (Dublin, Ireland to be exact) I found the winter to be a lonely and depressing time. What little money I had managed to save I cashed in on airline tickets and spent every other weekend traveling. My sanity's saving grace however, has been wedding planning.

I feel I should mention that before this moment in time I had considered myself somewhat of an "anti-bride." I had never looked at a wedding magazine/book/blog before in my life, never imagined my wedding day past swearing off any dress that remotely resembled a "princess" (gag me if I ever willingly wear a tiara while sober) and could have cared less about the differences between buttercream vs fondant icing, letterpress vs engraving, blush vs dusty rose,  or any of the million other details involved in weddings. Tempted to elope at first, I now am happy to say that I have not only started to embrace all that is "bridal" (except the tiara--NEVER the tiara)  I now look forward (aka have slowly become obsessed) to planning every last detail of my wedding.

Since I am so far from my number one wedding supporter (my mom of course) I started this blog as a way to not only keep  all my thoughts together, but to also share everything with her.
Plus I'm sure she'll appreciate this far more than the hundred or so emails I fill her inbox with on a daily basis

With that said I think I will attempt a fight with that bitch Insomnia. It's 2 am and the thought of getting up for work tomorrow makes me cry a little on the inside. Buenos noche

Chandelicious

I came across this board on Two Peas in a Bucket and I have a confession to make. I am in love/ slightly obsessed with every single one of these chandeliers.

Hmm...I think I found the first thing to add to my wedding registry....*nudge nudge wink wink*

Get excited!

Welcome to {Furi Kuri} Weddings!

Since becoming engaged I have slowly become obsessed with the million of details involved in planning a wedding. In doing so, it has become increasingly impossible to keep everything organized. While I am by no means "tech savy" I decided to create this blog as a dumping ground for all of my ideas and inspirations. Also, since my mother, fiance, and closest friends are all scattered across the globe, I hope this helps keep everyone informed.  As soon as I figure out what I'm doing be on the lookout for weekly updates. Enjoy!
